We prefer 3mm scrapers because they can intentionally be bent a bit to accommodate scraping bases that are no longer flat.
This flexibility can also deliver negative results when the scraper is unintentionally bent.
For novice techs, the answer might be to use a thicker scraper…or buy two of these and stack them when in use. If doing this latter method, mark them so you know which one has the most use, and when the primary edges are dulled, swap out. Or, get a good scraper sharpener. It will be needed at some time anyway.
