Repeated measurements at the base plate confirm that like the other Star digital irons, this can indeed maintain the claimed 200°C maximum setting temperature.
Many of the newest non-flouro waxes are coming with melt temperatures of 180°C, having a higher iron setting allows for a faster pass over the ski base. Or, it could smoke the wax and change the chemistry, or destroy your ski base. Use with caution!
Be warned, this thing is heavy. If you don’t like it for waxing, it will become a very expensive kettle ball substitute.
